Right after we went to retrieve our cat from it's vacation address we brought her to the vet. She'd been going to the litterbox too often and we also just wanted a little check up in general. Turns out she has urine christals and has to go on antibiotics for a little while and a lifelong diet.
Now what really pisses me off about this is that it is caused by a high salt percentage in cat food! It is quite a common problem with cats simply because their food isn't right for them at all.
I am really quite disgusted that it's apparently still okay in the food industry to say stuff is healthy while it is actually causing harm. I know there are still a lot of issues with food humans eat too, but at least we have a lot of choice. Cat food is cat food and you think you can feed it to your much loved cat, but I guess not...
I know what you mean by choosing food for your pet. I've put in no endless amount of research in to the diet of my pets, especially my rats. I used to give the p@h rat nuggets to my first rat because that's what they suggested in the pets shop but I later found out it wasn't a very good diet for her to be on at all. Luckily after thorough research I have finally found a mixture they are happy with and so am I.
ReplyDeleteStill, I'm sorry to hear that about your kitty :( I hope the antibiotics work for her and the new diet is more beneficial!

Oh this annoys me no end too, and the food that is ok for them is so expensive and only available through the vet.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm sorry to hear about your kitty, but I'm glad you caught it soon enough! Thanks for the heads up on the nasty cat food... I will have to find a natural alternative. Give your kitty a hug for me :)
