Follow Me Elsewhere

By now you are probably aware of the fact that as of tomorrow Google Reader will be no more. So I'd like to invite you to follow me through Bloglovin' from now on. It's real easy to make the switch. I promise!

All you have to do is make an account on Bloglovin', hover over the little blue heart and click "import from Google Reader". This will take you to the page you see below. Then just click the blue button. Easy peasy!

Personally I've stuck with Google Reader till the very end. I just don't like change and somehow this whole thing feels like the end of an era. I know we'll probably all get used to it in no time. But it still makes me a bit sad.

Anyway, I hope your transition to Bloglovin' went smoothly and that you'll enjoy my blog just as much as you did before. See you around!

Looking Back on June

The first official day of summer was wet and grey and cold, and I hate to say it, but most June days have been like that. There were a few sunny ones, but all in all, my list sounds a lot more like one I'd post in winter than in summer.

  • I received a pretty owl necklace from my dad on Father's Day!
  • Went to two birthday parties.
  • Caught up with a few friends I hadn't seen in ages.
  • Saw a lot of movies.
  • Even went to the cinema twice.
  • Suddenly got really into playing guitar again.
  • Got a floor installed in my apartment.
  • Did some shopping on book depository.
  • And ran a whole lot of errands.

What was your June like? Were you luckier weather-wise?

Lovely Movies: Now You See Me

If you go see one movie on the big screen this year, make it Now You See Me. It has everything! Picture a combination of Ocean's Eleven and Inception, but ten times better. In fact, the opening scene already blew my mind.

This beautifully filmed movie combines magic shows with action and great humor. And it messes with your head in a good way. Not just because of the magic tricks involved, but because of the tricky plot as well.

And the cast, oh how phenomenal! Basically everyone you see in the pictures above AND Mark Ruffalo and Melanie Laurent. Also, Woody Harrelson really surprised me with his stellar acting job!

If I haven't convinced you to see this movie yet, I hope the trailer did. Let me know if you go see it, ok?

Have you seen these dolls at EEching's Handmade? They're so cute and quirky! And I love the details too. Aren't the ears gorgeous? Those cheeks so rosy? Or just look at the little pug purse this bunny doll carries around!

Most dolls have custom options as well. You can often choose the facial expression, the colors or sometimes even the type of fabric. So you'll end up with a really unique little creature.

Anyway, if you're looking for something different, I recommend you check out this wonderful shop.

Owl Things Considered

Perhaps not quite as intriguing as the transformer owl I posted a few years back, but still quite impressive, is this owl trying to stand it's ground when encountering a cat.

I know, the video is quite slow, but I was still in awe of what this owl can do. And I love the human looks on its face!

Circle Songs #37

"Could it be I'm suffering because I never give in...?"
Trouble Sleeping - Corinne Bailey Rae
{picture sources: 1 - 2 - 3}

Lately I've been dividing my time between planning and doing things for my house and just going outside and letting everything be. The weather has been equally bipolar, from thunderstorms to bright sunshine. We had it all last week.

The Ultimate Blogger Animation!

If, like me, you are the type of blogger that adores vintage and decorating and crafting and cute little animals and figurines, you just have to watch this animation. It even comes with an amazing song!

Granted, the ending was a little sad, but wasn't this video amazing?! Did you think you had died and went to blogger heaven? Because I was almost jumping up and down when I found this!

Lovely Movies: the Answer Man

If I had to pick a favorite type of film I'd probably go with those unglamourous feel good movies. With the kind of people you could find around the corner and stories that might actually happen. The Answer Man is one of those.

It's full of people struggling with human problems and trying to make the best of life anyway. It has some really cute and quirky children in it, which always helps too. And even a teeny tiny part for Kat Dennings.

Here's the trailer. As usual, don't watch the whole thing. Just the first minute and a half, ok?

Also, the music in this film is amazing! Every single time a song would start I'd think "hey, that music is really nice", and that, my friend, is a pretty rare thing.

What is it about a fun tea infuser that's so appealing? Is it that it's small and thus cute? That it combines design and practicality? Or am I just that much of a tea addict? Either way, you have to admit this mana-tea is amazing, right?!

Whenever I visit a zoo I always spend a ridiculous amount of time at the manatees anyway, so this little trinket has me really excited. It's so incredibly life like. Well, apart from the holes of course. And I love it's color too!

And it's one of those things that would always make a cute gift. Even if you have no idea what to give the person in question, I don't think anyone could resist this.

You can order one here at Fred Flare if you're interested.

Owl Things Considered

This is one of the best owls I've found in a while! I normally wouldn't get excited about a cruet, but this one is shaped like the cutest barn owl. And the olive oil comes out of it's beak! Isn't that amazing?!

I am truly smitten with this thing and I can already see myself having people over for dinner and using this little guy!

You can order one on ModCloth if it just stole your heart as well. (Which I'm pretty sure it did!)

India Arie

I first heard India Arie when I was a little girl. With no way of getting hold of her CD back then I had no choice but to remember her name until, years later, I finally got a chance to buy her music. About 15 years have passed and I now have all of her albums. And it won't be long till I get to add another CD to my India Arie collection...

Because... her latest CD will be released next week! Here's a little preview of one of the songs from here new album:

I've always believed that if everyone on the planet would listen to her music, the world would be a much better place. As her amazing music is always relaxing, uplifting and full of powerful messages and inspiring words. Enjoy!

Lovely Movies: Charlie Bartlett

I don't think I had seen a Kat Dennings movie prior to seeing her on 2 Broke Girls, but I was an instant fan when I saw her in that show. She's just so cool and funny and unique and I really love her voice!

So after seeing her on cover of the Charlie Bartlett dvd and then watching the trailer, I went back to get the movie.

And it was even better than I hoped. I have to admit it didn't start out great (I wasn't into the violent part with the toilet and everything), but after about 15 minutes it turned around completely.

Remember watch 1 minute, maybe 1:30!

I loved the actor that played the main character, he was very quirky and smart and clearly didn't hold back, but wasn't over the top either. Also, I loved the music he made in this movie (and the overall soundtrack).

And though I won't spoil the ending, I will have you know that it was awesome too. So enjoy!

I have always wanted to built my own camera. And as amazing as it would be to do so from scratch, I think it would be helpful to use a DIY kit the first time round. Thankfully Lomography launched the Konstruktor today.
It's an SLR that you piece together yourself using the parts they send you in this handy kit. And it even comes with stickers so you can customize its look. Though I have to admit I prefer the black over their primary colors.
I know some Lomography cameras are more expensive then others, but this is one of the affordable ones. Which makes sense of course, since the concept is saving them a lot of work too.

Anyway, will you be building your own camera soon or are you sticking to finished store bought devices?

Owl Things Considered

Is your owl collection getting out of hand and do you only have room for very little owls? Or do you just love teeny tiny things? Then you have got to visit Lady Buxton on Etsy. Everything there is miniscule and very cute.

These are probably the smallest owl figurines I've ever seen! About the size of a fingernail. Isn't that adorable?

And you can get other creatures in the shop as well. From woodland, to deep sea, and even camels. So check it out.

Equality Street

Honestly I'm not that familiar with Ricky Gervais' work. I've seen the Invention of Lying and I love it whenever he's a guest on the Graham Norton Show, but I only discovered his iTunes channel a few weeks ago.

And that's where I found this song. I love it! I love the song, I love the message and I love the little jokes in it, especially the way Ricky jumped in in the beginning. Hope you enjoyed it too!

Every once in a while you see an article of clothing with a very clever pocket. And this "Hide and Sleek"-skirt might have one of the best pockets I've laid eyes on. Awesome touch, don't you think?

I love the scalloped edge on the bottom as well. And I know the whole print and color could go either way, but when you pair it right, I'm sure it'll make a nice ensemble. Besides, the cut looks nice and that squirrel really rocks!

Plans & Goals: June

This is probably going to be a very exciting month! It seems construction at my apartment will finally be finished, which means I'll get to decorate and move. And hopefully do these things as well:

  • Show you what piece I received from the Secret Hermit.
  • Find some nice looking curtains.
  • Start getting into the Hunger Games. I know, it's about time!
  • Make something in my new kitchen.
  • See a foreign film.
  • Decide on a couch.
  • Finally show some friends my new place.
  • Try some chocolate/ginger ice cream.
  • And visit a park.

Do you have any nice things planned?

In the Mail...

I was fortunate enough to receive this amazing bib necklace from An Astrid Endeavor and I just can't get enough of it! It is so unique and colorful and it turns even the greyest and simplest of shirts into an awesome outfit!

Not only that, it is really soft as well. I own necklaces that irk me, necklaces I don't mind wearing, some necklaces I don't feel, but this might be the first one that actually feels cozy and comfortable. Like fuzzy slippers for your neck!

And it is seriously packed with nifty little finds! In fact one of my favorite things about it is the clever way Astrid made the silver necklace part of the design of the actual bib. Now that is what I call a finishing touch!

I really recommend you visit Astrid's shop on Etsy! It is full of pretty jewelry and ornaments. And it has a lovely mix of styles: vintage, geometic, native. So there really is something for everyone. Including you owl lovers!

And you'll also find the necklace I have, as well as the same design in loads of different colors. So enjoy browsing!
