An Owl and a Pussycat

No, this isn't a story. This is an actual friendship between an owl and a pussycat. Fum and Gebra are real life besties!

And thankfully there's a cute montage of the two. I love how they even catch mice together. Check it out:

And if you can't get enough of them, be sure to follow them on facebook. Yes, they even have their own page.

Circle Songs #40

"One minute there was road beneath us, the next just sky..."
Falling is Like This - Ani DiFranco
{picture sources: 1 - 2 - 3}

New things are happening. New hobbies, new people, new situations. And I'm really enjoying it. I'm not worried about safety nets, I just take it as it comes. I'm sure more new things will come, and I'll be there to welcome them.

Greek Dogs

I've been a bit slow with my posts about Greece, but I really needed some time to sort through my hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Anyway, here are the dogs. The whole island was swarming with the cutest strays.

They had programs that would help you adopt one and get it to your country. I was very tempted to get this black one. And I have to admit that seeing the picture again made my heart break a little. Alas!

The other dog I'll always remember is this tiny old lady. She was so old she didn't even have teeth anymore, but she was still extremely promiscuous. Also, she had a radar for cars. Whenever one came she'd get in front of it.

Prepare to let out a very big "awwwww!" now. Puppies are always adorable of course, but they really are especially irresistible when they cuddle up like this, aren't they?

The rest of my pictures from Greece will follow soon. So much more to show you!

Wishlist

I know it's been a while, but I am back, and with a crush on a stellar dress! It is perfect in every way! Fit, colors, fabric. And that sheen! It almost seems as if it can't be real. Supernatural even. But it's not, you can actually buy one!

If you are as smitten as I am, you can get one here on ModCloth

Lovely Movies: About Time

I don't think I've ever left the cinema happier than I was after seeing About Time. This movie has everything. Even time travel! But time travel in an amazingly quirky and realistic way, not in the sci-fi sense.

But apart from that it's just a wonderful romantic comedy. And a film that tells the story of real people with real lives and real families. Families you would probably trade for -or perhaps rather add to- your own in a heartbeat.

Honestly I don't even think you should watch the trailer. Just take my word for it. But if you can't help yourself at least promise to only watch till 1:30. It's always for the best to not see to much in advance.

If I can I'll go see this again on the big screen, because I don't think I can wait until the dvd release.
So make sure you don't miss this one ok! Go see it. Even if you're broke, just make it happen. It'll be so very worth it.

Some News on Diane Setterfield

Thursdays are normally wishlist posts. And technically this is one too. You see, I just found out Diane Setterfield has written a new book and I want to read it. Oh, I want too read it very, very badly. Her previous -and only other- novel was the Thirteenth Tale, which I savored. So I'm very excited to finally be able to read a new book of hers.

But there's more! The Thirteenth Tale is being made into a BBC drama starring... drumroll please... Olivia Colman and Vanessa Redgrave! I am so glad that this amazing story fell into the British hands and didn't end up in Hollywood.

So plenty to look forward to! The film should air at Christmas time and the book actually came out today, yay!

Owl Things Considered

The embroidery kits by kirikipress are really something special! I just love they turn illustration into amazing objects. And not just that... Michelle, the owner, made very cute and clear DIY kits with them, so you can make them yourself.

The box shows a difficulty level from 1 to 3, which makes it easy to pick a perfect gift for your DIY-diehards as well as your not so creative friends. Or if you yourself are starting out, you could even make your way through all three.

As you can see, there are amazing owls available. But there are also other animals to choose from. Like foxes.

If you loved these pictures I suggest you visit kirikipress to see the whole collection. I bet you'll be favoriting them all...

Circle Songs #39

"Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags, I've come to know that memories were the best things you ever had..."
Old Pine - Ben Howard
{picture sources: 1 - 2 - 3}

It is proper Autumn here and it makes Greece seem a lot more distant than it actually is. Thankfully the combination of savouring those memories and the coziness of fall is pretty nice. Also, I'm starting to look forward to Christmas...

Rescue Owl

Every once in a while I check YouTube and see if anyone has posted an interesting owl video. Today I came across one from a guy that is caring for a Screech and it just made my day! Hope you'll like it too!

P.S. Is it just me or is the whole setting Gremlins-reminiscent. Let's just hope he wasn't feeding it after midnight...

Lovely Movies: Red Riding Hood

Fairy tale lovers tend to either hate or love it when Hollywoods decides to do an action-packed retelling. I often start out in the latter category, but usually end up disappointed. I was a bit with Red Riding Hood, but also quite enjoyed it.

In this version the wolf is a werewolf that hides among the seemingly innocent villagers. And I have to admit that they did a really good job at making you wonder who it is until the reveal at the very end.

Anyway, I thought last scene was a bit weak and didn't care much for the love triangle, but other than that it was a beautifully shot movie with a very unique and intense atmosphere. Also, the costumes were very nice as well!

Wishlist

Rifle Paper Co. always releases the prettiest designs! I could probably put every one of their items on my wishlist, but for now I'm smitten with these coasters. They're vintage, yet timeless and I bet they would look great in my apartment.

Anyway, they come as a boxed set of 8(two of each design) and are available on the Rifle Paper Co. Website.

Plans & Goals: October

Every month my plans to make the move to my new place were in vain, but it has to happen sometime and I'm optimistic for October. Just in case it falls through yet again, I do have other fun plans as well. I hope to:

  • Finish my current knitting project.
  • And finally block the one I finished last month.
  • Buy some curtains.
  • Stop by a Lush party and check out their winter collection.
  • Meet up with some people I haven't seen in a while.
  • Go to our local pet store's charity event.
  • Take the time to play my guitar and improvise at home.
  • Experiment with cooking new things.
  • And send some fun mail again!

What are your plans? Anything special?

Looking Back on September

September was a month of transformation. I went on vacation by myself, which needless to say, was full of new experiences too. And I feel very different from the way I did before I left. Anyway, let's look back on the month!

  • I met lots of wonderful people!
  • Won a magical necklace by one of my favorite artists.
  • Made a lot of progress in my apartment.
  • Tried Lindy Hop dancing.
  • Had some delicious ice cream.
  • Did many new creative things.
  • Found out how amazing beet root tastes in fruit juices.
  • Met David Sedaris for the second time, gave him a bookmark and really enjoyed his show.
  • And the little kitty in the picture above turned 10!

Did you do anything exciting too? I'd love to hear about it!

Lovely Movies: Must Love Dogs

The whole idea that you can somehow "fix" your whole life by getting a boyfriend/girlfriend is pretty absurd to me and movies that claim that sometimes rub me the wrong way. However, Must Love Dogs was still an awesome movie.

It's a pretty simple story with a pretty obvious ending, but it had so many good things as well. The cast, for instance, was amazing. I mean... Diane Lane, John Cusack, Stockard Channing and Christopher Plummer. They really helped make this movie into something more than what the synopsis must look like.

Anyway, it's a lovely movie that will make you laugh a bunch of times and leave you with a good feeling. If you're hoping to cheer up a dreary fall day, I definitely recommend it.

In the Mail...

Having been an admirer of Stasia Burrington for years now, I jumped at the opportunity to win one of her necklaces at Pony Chops. You can probably imagine my excitement when the actual necklace showed up at my door!

I got to take my pick from all the necklaces and ended up going for this simple and delicate cicada. Isn't it stunning?!

So far it is the only Stasia Burrington item I own, but I like to think that will change after I move into my apartment and start thinking about putting some art on my walls. I seem to love everything, so that will be one tough choice!

Here are a few things that currently fill her lovely shop:

I love her mix of creepy, quirky and elegant! Her style is so unique. You'll always recognize her work immediately.
Anyway, she's always making new things too, so I suggest you subscribe to her blog if you want to stay in the loop.

Greek Cats pt.2: Lazy Cats

During this trip I've seen some of the most relaxed cats I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Pretty much any direction you'd look, any street you'd walk, any shop you'd enter, had a cat. A true cat lover's heaven!

A Life in a Song

It is probably impossible to not love Yann Tiersen's music for Amelie, it is just so beautiful and magical. And today I found a wonderful animation to accompany perhaps his most famous song. Enjoy!

Greek Cats pt.1

There were a lot of cats in Greece! There were cute cats and mean cats and it was tricky finding out in which category they belonged. On my very first night I got scratched, so from then on, instead of petting them, I took their pictures.

There will be a second -and even better- cat post later this week! This time full of lazy cats.
