Lovely Movies: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

The Miss Peregrine trilogy made me fangirl before even dipping in a toe. I bought the books early on, but that whole Schrödinger's Cat scenario of enjoyment vs disappointment had a real hold on me and so I still haven't read them.

But I will read them soon, as I adored the movie. Tim Burton knows how to create visual masterpieces, and the cast was phenomenal (and included a bunch of my favorite actors). I got the impression there were some flaws in the logic or continuity sometimes, but that can all be forgiven as it was so very magical and highly entertaining.

All the trailers showed way too much of the story, so instead I'm posting this:

I expected it to be more of a children's movie but found it actually bordered on horror at times. Nothing too traumatic, but something to be aware of in case you're easily creeped out or planning on bringing kids to see it on the big screen.

Anyway, I'll buy the dvd either way, but I'm really crossing my fingers that they'll release some sort of fancy special edition… Like a steelcase or something with embossing, ooh, or a slipcase! And a second disc with extras...

The Trailer is Here!

Yes! I have been waiting for the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children trailer for ages. Every once in a while I would check to see if it was out yet, and then today I heard about it through the Twitter newsletter grapevine!

Doesn't it look amazing?! I actually have yet to read the book. It's been on my shelf for ages, but I still find myself looking forward to it so much, and I guess I just wanted to keep something to look forward to. Anyway, it's a long wait till September (when the movie comes out) and I'm sure I'll read the book, if not the entire trilogy, before then.

Amazing Art: José Luis López Galván

Most of this artwork is really dark and eerie, but some pieces have a serene and non-threatening atmosphere to them. I bet this would be great as a book that also included fictional stories about the creatures in the paintings!

Amazing Art: Bruno Vergauwen

Haunting and beautiful. That's all I can say to describe Bruno Vergauwen's art work. I'm sure that if you don't mind the eeriness some pieces exude, you'll love his work as well. I wish he would make a graphic novel someday!

Pretty Paintings: Greg Simkins

A new art discovery always makes my day. And it sure did today when I found Greg Simkins! He's created such an extroardinary fantasy world, it's just unbelievable how anyone's imagination could deliver paintings as amazing as these.

He uses both colours and themes I absolutely adore and the detail is amazing! Like most cool artists, he has painted a few owls.
He reminds me of Scott Radke mixed with Dali, with a Mark Ryden technique and sometimes Miss Van like creatures. I'm a huge fan already and I wouldn't be surprised if you are after these pictures too. I put together a collection for you, it gets darker as you go. Enjoy!

All images belong to Greg Simkins of course.
