Singapore: the People

The people in Singapore were lovely and friendly and there were so many nationalities as well.
Though my fingers were itching to take portraits, I didn't real dare to take many. But I did manage to put together a collection of pictures to give you a glimpse of all I saw on my trip.

I loved seeing so many cultures coexist so peacefully. Though there are many nationalities in my city as well, things aren't always as friendly as I wish they were. Perhaps I didn't spend enough time in Singapore to see the true reality, but it did seem to go well there.

Like the juxtaposition of city and nature, there is also a huge difference in people. Some seem to be very traditional, while others focus on being as beautiful and perfect as they can be.

I saw lots of photo shoots on the streets, mostly for engagements. I found it quite odd at first, as I've never seen anything like it where I live.

The people do put a lot effort in their appearance and it shows. Even guys are very well dressed( don't have any pictures of those unfortunately. There are so many different styles though, from very simplistic to very sophisticated to very cute and doll-like.

That's it for today. Up next: animals!

Lovely Movies: Beginners

Of course I only blog about movies I loved, but Beginners is a film I highly recommend.

Not only is the story wonderful, but the actors are all brilliant and even the soundtrack is perfect. You can hear the magical song in the trailer as well, and as usual I suggest you only watch the first minute:

In the end I think these kind of films are my absolute favorites. The ones that make you feel happy while still including a bit of a depressing atmosphere as well.

Similar movie tips are yet again very welcome in the comments!

Intrigued: Holly Palmer's furniture

As you probably know I drink tea all day every day. And I was quite intrigued when I found these little stools today. Aren't they cute? I imagine all sorts of Alice in Wonderland tea parties with these.

The designer Holly Palmer has loads of amazing ideas and fun designs. Check out this book porcupine for example.

She also has a blog. And here's her website as well. Enjoy!

Singapore: Books Actually

When the opportunity arose to go to Singapore, I immediately started looking things up that I might wanted to visit. Books Actually immediately made it to the very top of my list.

Take me to a bookstore and I'm a very happy girl, throw in stationary and you'll have trouble pulling me out again, raise that with some vintage and I'm suddenly very willing to put up with a twelve-and-a-half-hour plane trip.

Thankfully the actual visit was as fantastic as I imagined it to be. It was a combination of old books, awesome books and local books. I spent quite some time checking out all authors, titles and little trinkets that were scattered all over the store.

Of course I bought some things there. In fact a fair share of my birthday money was spent here.
I decided to get some local books, things I couldn't possibly find at home. And well, a Banana Yoshimoto I didn't already own.

There was also a collection of zines to choose from, I liked this one best.

And I finally got my long-awaited chance to get a Frankie Magazine!

Well, that's pretty much it for books.

But... I have lots of other things from different shopping trips to show you! Including some things that have been on my wish list for ages...

There has been some birthday mail last month!

Here's a wonderful package from Amy! She sent me the cutest birthday card, an amazing purse filled with a lovely necklace and a cool wooden friendship bracelet. To top things off she also included a very pretty and handy dream journal. Thanks so much!

Something else I just have to show you is this cat card that came in the mail. Isn't it adorable?

Another friend sent me some amazing owls as well, I will post those another time though.

Have you gotten any nice mail lately?

Review: Bobby Glam

A little while ago the lovely people at Bobby Glam asked me to review some of their products here on Blue Eyed Night Owl. Their website looked very promising so I agreed. And today I'll show you my absolute favorite pieces from their beautiful jewelry collection.

When the postman handed me this lovely pink parcel I was very excited, even more so when I found the stunning pink boxes inside.

I received a selection of different jewelry items. Let's start of with these beautiful posy drop earrings!

These are perfect for any girl that likes to wear vintage clothes. And they're easy to match too, thanks to the nude shades.
They are sturdy, yet light enough to wear comfortably. The material looks very good: from the pretty enameled flowers to the rhinestones that sparkle in many colors depending on how the light hits them.

Quite similar, but not too matchy-matchy is this daisy ring(which happens to go perfectly with the garment in the background. I'll show you in a separate post!). It's quite big and makes for a nice statement piece. I look forward to wearing it in the warmer seasons.

Another ring I picked is this lovely and unique bear ring. From a distance it pretty much looks like a simple band, but when you get closer you discover the little face and ears.

My final item(s) will come as no surprise...owls! They had the cutest little owl bobby pins! I love these owls with their rhinestone eyes and heart-shaped bellies. I imagine they would look great on any hair color, but they happen to match my hair perfectly.

Of course these are the items that fit my taste best, but there are loads of other items in lots of different styles to be found on Bobby Glam. Apart from having a huge jewelry collection they are experts on anything to do with hair.

Here's a little sneak peek of what they have to offer:

Final Verdict

I was very satisfied with everything. The service is great, the shipping extremely fast(just a few days to get from the UK to Amsterdam) and the items all lovely. A big thumbs up from me!

Singapore: First Glance

Though I have lots of other posts planned on my trip to Singapore, I thought I'd start by giving you an impression of what it's like over there. Enjoy!

One of the first things that sprang to mind when I first heard "Singapore" was architecture and skyscrapers. And it was quite surreal to see all the buildings there.

But there's also lots of nature to be found. This was the view from our room and it perfectly combined both the tropical and the urban.

I'm not exaggerating when I call this place paradise. I mean the pigeons are in rainbow and even the bird crap is orange.

And they happen to have a pastel McDonald's!

I stuck to more local cuisine though, along with some tasty treats from the Japanese supermarket.

I really enjoyed seeing lots and lots of green. Being a city girl and nature freak all at once, I felt right at home.

Singapore is pretty at night too. All buildings are beautifully lit and there's a stunning light show twice a night.

On my birthday I got to go on a helicopter. And though I wasn't allowed to take any pictures there, I can show you this nice shot I took from a building.

I also got a lovely chocolate cake and a nice dinner with my family. The band even sang me "Happy Birthday"!

I took loads and loads of pictures that I'll share with you in some themed posts.

So keep a look out for more posts about my trip!

Who would've thought...

...that out of all Disney movies Baloo would be the very best role model?

I know you all know this song, but it's worth another listen as a grown up:

Teal Appeal

You probably know teal is one of my favorite colors. It's calm, elegant, has just a touch of magic and goes well with all the basic colors too. And I wore lots of it today!

The above necklace was a birthday gift from one of my dearest friends. It only just arrived, but I already love it like I've worn it all my life.

The nails are actually a scented polish, along with a holographic topcoat, which is even more amazing than you can see now.

My "cool" watch. I love that it's so simple.  And some of my favorite sneakers to top it off.

Also, this is how the necklace was wrapped. Isn't it perfect?

What color are you loving in your wardrobe?
