Great Reads: Jane Eyre

Even though I love to read I have not read many classics. However, I recently managed to cross one of my list: Jane Eyre.

I really enjoyed it. It was a little odd at first, as with all the True Blood I was watching I couldn't help but picture Mr. Rochester as Bill Compton. However, halfway through the book I managed to erase that bizarre mental picture.

The more the story progressed the better it got and I found it harder and harder to resist looking up the ending somewhere. It's one of those books that make you want to read all night to find out how it ends.

Anyway, if you missed out on some classics yourself I definitely recommend you still give Jane Eyre a read.

Also, has anyone seen the new movie? Is it worth watching or should I wait till the book isn't as fresh in my mind anymore?

  3. Hahaha, I cracked up over this as I often picture True Blood characters whenever I read anything now. :P True Blood 4 Life! ;)

I have only read one classic book ever... and that was Dracula! Which I loved, loved, LOVED. I may give Jane Eyre a try!

  4. You finished it, yay! Great to hear that you liked it after all. :)

The new movie is okay, a lot of the story is missing (as often is with books turned into films), but I enjoyed Fassbender as Rochester very much! Not a must-watch, but interesting to see it all played out.

  5. I recommend Jane Eyre all the time as it is one of my all time favourite books to read. It's nice to hear you enjoyed it. Have you read '1984'? Completely different & a little weird but I also love that, as well as 'Crime & Punishment'.
    Have a lovely Sunday x

  6. Hello! Jane Eyre is a very special book to me :) Your post made me smile. Also you can look up how much of Bronte's own life filtered into Jane Eyre if you're interested :) I havent seen any of the film adaptations, but I did watch a BBC series which was quite well made.

    Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday! x

  7. I will always remember that it was Jane Eyre that made me into a Victorianist! One of my favourite Victorian novels hands down. I agree with NikNak, so much of the book is echoed from Charlotte's life and experiences. If you liked Jane Eyre, I'd suggest that you check out Villette next if you're looking to read more of Charlotte Bronte's work. It's similar, but I actually like it better.

Af far as the 2011 film adaptation goes - I loved it! Very true to the book. Matthew Fassbender is a much better Rochester than Compton. Also, Wasikowsha does a fantastic job as Jane.

    Happy Reading!

  8. Jane Eyre is one of my all-time favorite books! I read it in highschool and had to force myself to get to the halfway point, or close to it, because the beginning was sort of slow but just like you, I couldn't put it down as I got closer to the end! It's just such a beautiful - and real - story. I haven't seen the newest film adaptation but I have seen one that's several years old. I think it's worth seeing the film just to get to relive some of those beautiful moments again. :) Happy Monday!

  11. Oh my gosh I can totally see Bill Compton as Mr. Rotchester! Nice to find another True Blood fan :) I admit I started Jane Eyre in the summer, got about 60% of the way through and put it down. What did I put it down for at the time you ask? I started reading the Sookie Stakehouse series lol
Over the holidays I watched one of the Jane Eyre movies, not the most current one but I enjoyed it. I suspect because it's a classic they really wouldn't alter it like happens with so many books that are turned into a movie. I say go for it! If you watch, let me know how it was.
