Lovely Movies: Populaire

Mix French cinema with '50s fashion and I have got to be there! So when someone told me about the film "Populaire" I rushed to the cinema at the very last day they showed it. And I'm so glad I made it!

To begin with, it was super stunning! I love how the French still make movies look old if they're set a few decades back. -Like the other amazing film: Le Havre!- And of course those '50s dresses help too. I also really liked the leading lady, she had a bit of a clumsy beauty about her, and felt slightly Auburn-esque even.

Though the story wasn't complex and perhaps a tiny bit predictable, it was still full of surprises and just a delight to watch. I already look forward to seeing it again some day.

Lovely Movies: Le Petit Nicolas

I saw the sweetest film yesterday! If you're familiar with either French or children's books, you may have heard of the Le Petit Nicolas books. Well, it has been made into a wonderful movie!

It may be a children's movie, but it is definitely very entertaining for adults as well. It has such a special vibe and a lovely quirky sense of humor. Also, the set and the way of filming are fantastic!

Marvelous Music: Ben l'Oncle Soul

Honestly I wasn't really expecting the revival of soul music to start in France, it sounds a bit odd to be honest. Well, only until I actually heard Ben l'Oncle Soul, because his cd is awesome.

His international succes came after his cover of Seven Nation Army, which was awesome by the way. And though his original songs are amazing too, I wanted to leave you guys with his cover of Barbie Girl. If you can make that song into a proper piece of music, you are one talented guy, wouldn't you agree?

Lovely Movies: Intouchables

Intouchables has turned into a big art house hype, and rightfully so. It is one of the best movies I've ever seen. In fact, it's such a special story that I could hardly believe anyone can just walk in a theater and see it. It's such a special one of a kind movie that it gives me the odd feeling that I'm the only one in the world tho have seen it. Weird, I know!
